It was a bright sunny day and I wanted to capture that in this fold of trees on the edge of a river bank. I believe there was snow on the ground making it even more bright. I used vine charcoal which is much softer than compressed charcoal. It smudges easily but that makes it easier to manipulate for subtle changes and nuances. I tend to finish sooner because vine charcoal doesn't stay sharpened for very long and a blunt point can't get as much detail so I tend to summarize and simplify. It really works quite well. Enjoy!
