If you are interested in a portrait commission please contact me through the 'Contact The Artist' link above. I would be more than happy to render a portrait of someone you love or a pet you hold dear. This is a very special gift that usually pleases the recipient very much!

Below are the guidelines I've devised to insure a successful venture. Please read carefully:
* I only work in one size at this time, 9 x 12 inches for the paper size, and I only commission charcoal portraits. The image will be approximately 8 x 10 inches. I only do faces and neck area of people and animals. I do not do figures or any other subjects. I only do one face per portrait, no group portraits. The sketch will be on Bristol vellum - a high quality heavy paper
* If there is any extra detailed work, for example jewelry or a pattern on clothes it will be simplified or omitted; we can discuss these options; it's possible I could do the detailed work but it would cost more; mainly, a portrait is all about the face, not the jewelry or the clothes
* I don't do backgrounds unless you want a solid value of black/gray; I recommend keeping the background white
* I only work from original photos; I will not work from photos that are copywritten - I do not do celebrities or other artists works for commissions
* The current price for a charcoal portrait is $300 US dollars; I require a 50% deposit for each portrait as a good faith payment to begin a project
* I guarantee a likeness
* I'll need a photo to work from; it needs to be clear and lit well enough - no back lighting with the face in the shade; do not crop any of the face, hair, etc. - make sure the whole head is within the boundaries of the photo; I'll edit the photo for composition, contrast, etc. and work with you through email for an approval; you can email me the picture to edit; the better the photograph the better the result; I don't do pieces from different photos, I only work from one photo
* Your email approval will be your written consent to do the job and start the contract and that you agree to these guidelines
* I'll need two months to complete the project although it's usually done sooner - typically one month. Contact me for my current schedule if you need it sooner, e.g. for a birthday or anniversary gift. I may be able to help you.
* I offer a mat service of the finished drawing on a black or white single mat. The cost is $30 US Dollars. The mat size is 12 x 16 inches. It will be professionally mounted and matted with acid-free materials and totally archival and ready for framing (that's your responsibility); its too troublesome to ship drawings in frames with glass so I totally avoid it
* The finished sketch will be 'fixed' with at least three coats of fixative making the charcoal reasonably secure although it is still relatively delicate; it will arrive in an acetate bag; I recommend you leave it in there until it's ready for framing; be careful not to scrape or smudge the sketch - it is relatively fragile; the artwork is on paper so it must be behind glass or plastic to protect it so the frame must have one or the other
* I will email you an image of the final sketch to approve; if approved then I require the balance paid in full plus shipping and then I will ship it to you; if rejected then I keep the deposit and the artwork; if you would like to pick it up at my studio to avoid shipping charges then you may do that if you like
* Your email approval will be your written consent that you have accepted the final sketch and that the contract is now completed once payment and delivery are made
* Look at my current work to see how I draw and use these works to decide if my style is what you want; I just copy the photo to the best of my ability so it will look much like the photo; my artwork is 'painterly' meaning you can see the artist's style and handiwork; it will look very real!
* Shipping is $15 to $25 in the U.S. depending on where you live; outside the U.S. I'd have to look into it for a shipping price and if it is feasible to proceed with the project; I will contact you with the shipping cost to be included with the balance owed when the project is finished
